What can be learned from Denmark!

I am not sure whether this is completely generalised for Denmark, because I have been to various cities in Denmark, such as Skaerbaek, Kolding, Billund, Fyns Hoved, Odense, Esbjerg, Ribe... and didn't feel exactly like I was on my weekend trip to Copenhagen.

  • The people were very open, liberal, friendly and stylishly dressed.
  • The people seemed happy and the majority looked very healthy.
  • There is a very good balance between green and buildings, especially visible in a city like Copenhagen.
  • Predecessors have maximum priority and bikes have the same facilities as cars in Copenhagen.
  • Harbours, rivers, tapwater... the water in general looked very clean with people swimming regularly in them.
  • ...
Isn't this what I would like to see all over the world?

Upon arrival at the hotel, in the room there was a small book that welcomed us and of which I took the following excerpts (I took pictures of it and left it there for future readers):

At least from my point of view, I loved the approach of Copenhagen and Denmark. There was an energy I can only dream of all over the world. I conclude from this, that they have figured out much better than I have and probably a lot of other places on earth. Their politicians have made decisions that may not have made them popular in the short term, now I am sure that there are people that in the long term are very thankful for that. Politicians I can only dream of.

Let's take an example: the world would be a better place!

How to time travel?

Steven, kidding right?

I travel in time all the time.

The main activity of my mind is time travel.

I imagine what things could be like and remember the experiences I had.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, if I'm able to let go.

Letting go is important, it was something I couldn't really do in the first 35 years of my life.

Time travel to the past is great, it's great to remember the great moments in the past, whether they were positive or negative. It gets a little less interesting as that gets my point of reference and I bring that up all the time. It is also less interesting if it avoids me to experience the present moment, maybe something similar and different. I found here a big step forward, to acknowledge that, that happens. Acknowledgement is a beginning for many things.

Time travel to the future is great, it stimulates my imagination and sometimes lets me do things I couldn't have imagined. Of course, my imagination can also create the reference that I live up to. If that is the case, it can sometimes be very difficult to carry with me and the disappointment can also be very great if it doesn't work that way.

So today, thanks to a meditation practice, observing my time travel is very interesting. Instead of always going all the way as in the past, I observe it and see how it can help me. If it can be positive, I go on, if not, or if I'm not sure, then I just let it go and go to something else.

An example to clarify this, which I can imagine everyone has seen.

I'm ready to sleep in my bed and something pops up in my head.

It can be something I've lived (from the past), something I imagine (for the future) or often a mix of both, which means that I've been through something (a certain experience) that makes me imagine an act for the future.

Sometimes this kind of time travel, can make it impossible to sleep.

What I do, then, is observe it all.

Observe the experience of the past, what is a fact and acknowledge it, and I can't change it anyway.

Then I observe the imagination of the future, often strongly related to the experience of the past.

By observing it, it gives me a sense of calm. However, it often does not allow me to sleep yet.

I then look into my observations and try to connect them with myself.

Why do I think that way, why do I feel that way, what will change my reaction to the situation...?

Sometimes by doing that, everything is so clear, that I can let it go and that it doesn't need more attention on my part. Sleep well!

I sometimes said that there are times when it's just too strong. For those moments when people used to tell me, sleep over it. Yeah right, that's exactly why I can't sleep. What helped me in those cases, was to get up and write down everything that turns so hard in my head. About my future imagination (or sometimes even partly of what still bothers me from the past) and when I have done all that, it is easier for me to stop time travel, to say that everything is safe on paper, it will reappear when it has to come up again and I can easily concentrate on how tired I am and have a great liberated sleep.

I managed to get time travel to help and not destroy me like it used to.

A quick guide for male fair trade clothes!

When I began to realize how much suffering I created in the world, it seemed to me a moral duty to eliminate that suffering. At the best I could and for everything I am aware of. It is clear that before my changed eating habits, I was not at all aware of any suffering I was creating.

Of course, I quickly understood that in order to:

  • Get meat on my plate -> animals have to suffer.
  • To drink milk -> animals have to suffer.
  • To eat cheese -> animals have to suffer.
  • ...

and of course this was also one of the sources and motives to eat in this other way.

I have to admit that I felt much better with the realisation that I didn't let the animals suffer for my food.

After that step, I realized that, that is only to remove a part of the suffering.

It is a great step, now certainly not the only one.

Another important pillar in general is suffering for our clothes.

It is not only the animals that are suffering, also the people who are often mistreated and have to work in terrible conditions.

The tragedy on 24 April 2013 in Rana Plaza, when an eight-storey building in Bangladesh collapsed, where more than 1,100 people employed by garment factories were trapped and killed, is truly a smash right in my face of what I constantly ignore and what my over- and wrong consumption does to this world.

Is this what I want to spend my money on?

My soul mate couldn't accept it either and decided to start her own project in this direction, L’Envol du Colibri (https://www.lenvolducolibri.be).

For me that was all very clear, psychologically I could no longer give money to a company that is not respectful of all living creatures on earth.

From that day on, any clothes I would buy would be 'ETHICAL', 'FAIR TRADE' and 'ORGANIC ORIGINE'.

I must admit that the journey was not easy, not everything was easy to find.

Most of them are only available through a webshop.

Still, it is most likely that if I’m looking for something, one day I will find something.

Here's a list of everything I've bought since then and clothes I really love, full of love!
